Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Unpile app for macOS and the website at https://unpileapp.com (together, “Unpile”), provided by Coyotiv GmbH (“Coyotiv,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By downloading, installing or using Unpile, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Unpile.

2. What Unpile does

Unpile is a Mac app that helps you clean up your Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes. It can, for example, mark mail from a sender as read, apply labels, archive mail, move mail to Spam or Trash, and view, create, edit and delete Gmail filters.

Unpile works directly between your Mac and Google. It cannot send email, write drafts or permanently delete mail. Mail you delete goes to Gmail's Trash, which Gmail empties after 30 days. How we handle data is described in our Privacy Policy.

3. Beta

Unpile is currently offered as a free beta. During the beta:

  • features may change, be added or be removed at any time;
  • Unpile may contain bugs or be temporarily unavailable; and
  • we may end the beta, or your access to it, at any time.

If we later offer paid plans, we will tell you the price and terms before you are charged anything. Nothing in these Terms obliges you to pay for Unpile.

4. Your Google account

To use Unpile you sign in with your own Google account and grant Unpile the permissions it asks for. You are responsible for:

  • only connecting Google accounts you are authorised to use, including, for a Google Workspace account, any approval your organisation requires;
  • the actions you take with Unpile, such as marking mail as read, archiving, moving mail to Spam and creating or changing filters; and
  • keeping your Mac and your Google account secure.

Your use of Gmail remains subject to Google's own terms and policies. You can revoke Unpile's access at any time by choosing Sign Out in the app or at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

5. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Unpile on Macs you own or control, for your personal or internal business purposes, in accordance with these Terms.

You may not:

  • sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Unpile, except sharing the unmodified download with colleagues or friends for their own use under these Terms;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or modify Unpile, except where the law expressly allows it;
  • use Unpile to break the law, to access accounts you are not authorised to access, or in a way that violates Google's terms; or
  • remove or alter any copyright, trademark or other notices.

Unpile, its name, logo and design remain the property of Coyotiv. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.

6. Bulk actions and Undo

Unpile is built to act on many messages at once. Before confirming an action, check what it applies to. Unpile offers Undo for many actions, but Undo depends on Google's servers and is not guaranteed to restore every change, for example after you close the app, after Google rejects a request, or for changes made to filters. Gmail filters you create apply to future mail in your account until you change or delete them, in Unpile or in Gmail.

7. Feedback

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve Unpile without any obligation to you.

8. Availability and changes

Unpile depends on Google's Gmail API and on macOS. Changes by Google or Apple may limit or stop features from working. We may update, change or discontinue Unpile, in whole or in part, at any time.

9. Liability

Unpile is provided free of charge. Coyotiv is therefore liable only for intent and gross negligence.

This limitation does not apply to liability for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), for fraudulently concealed defects, or where liability cannot be limited by law.

Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

10. Termination

You can stop using Unpile at any time by signing out and deleting the app. We may suspend or end your right to use Unpile if you breach these Terms, or when the beta ends. Sections 5 (ownership), 7, 9 and 11 continue to apply after termination.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you live.

If you are a merchant (Kaufmann), a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction is Berlin, Germany.

The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when Unpile or the law changes. The current version is published at https://unpileapp.com/terms/, and the “Last updated” date shows the latest revision. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give notice on the website or in the app. If you keep using Unpile after the change takes effect, the updated Terms apply.

If any provision of these Terms is invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
