Product approach
Unpile organizes cleanup around recurring senders. Users can decide how to handle a sender's messages together, then apply suitable rules to future arrivals.
The product is designed for people who find inbox maintenance difficult, including users who experience email overwhelm, decision fatigue, or ADHD-related challenges with repetitive administrative tasks. Its design emphasizes fewer repeated decisions, visible progress, and control over changes.
Core features
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sender-level cleanup | Shows a sender's unread total and lets users mark matching unread messages as read together. |
| Top Senders | Ranks senders by unread message count. |
| Review | Displays a sender's unread messages across folders for selective review. |
| Organize | Applies labels, read status, and inbox handling to existing mail, future mail, or both. |
| Quick Actions | Saves preferred organization settings as reusable buttons and keyboard shortcuts. |
| Gmail filter management | Supports creating, editing, deleting, and applying filters to existing mail. |
| Sender and domain grouping | Groups the message list by sender or domain. |
| Gmail search | Supports Gmail search syntax for finding messages. |
Rules created for future messages run in Gmail, including when Unpile is closed. By default, opening a message in Unpile leaves it unread; users can change this preference.
Unsubscribing
Unpile supports unsubscribing when a message provides a supported unsubscribe mechanism. Depending on the sender, it submits a request directly, opens a webpage, or prepares an email in the user's usual mail app for them to send.
Users can combine unsubscribing with marking existing messages as read or moving them to Trash. Unsubscribe requests cannot be undone within Unpile.
Deletion and Undo
Unpile moves deleted messages to Gmail's Trash. It does not permanently delete messages itself. Gmail normally permanently deletes messages from Trash after 30 days.
Unpile provides Undo for supported mail changes. Recovery depends on the action and Google's response; it is not an unlimited backup or a guarantee that every change can always be restored.
Users should check the selected sender, domain, and message scope before applying bulk actions.
Privacy and data handling
Unpile connects directly from the user's Mac to Google. Coyotiv does not operate servers that receive, store, or process users' email.
- Google sign-in: Authentication takes place on Google's own page. Unpile does not receive the user's Google password.
- Credentials: Google authentication tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain.
- Local cache: An optional cache stores message text and metadata on the Mac. It does not store attachments.
- iCloud: Optional sync transfers Quick Actions and the list of connected accounts between Macs. It does not sync email or authentication tokens.
- Tracking: The app contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs. The website uses Google Analytics only with consent.
- Remote images: Images loaded within emails may reveal an open event and the user's IP address to the sender.
- Access control: Users can revoke access through Unpile or their Google account.
Unpile requests Gmail permissions to read and organize messages and manage filters. Although Google's permission wording includes sending, Unpile has no sending or drafting functionality.
Full details are available in the Privacy Policy.
Example use cases
Unpile can support workflows such as:
- Reviewing accumulated job alerts while keeping relevant opportunities visible.
- Filing newsletters for later reading.
- Organizing recurring receipts and order confirmations.
- Clearing outdated app notifications.
- Reviewing repeated senders after a vacation.
- Applying client labels while keeping active conversations in the inbox.
- Creating rules that prevent the same recurring messages from rebuilding the backlog.
Users choose the rules and actions appropriate to each sender. When an address sends several kinds of messages, review them before applying the same treatment to the whole group.
Current product scope
Unpile currently supports Gmail and Google Workspace on Mac. It can connect multiple Google accounts, with users switching between them in the app. Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud Mail, and other email providers are not currently supported.
Unpile focuses on cleanup and organization. Users continue using their usual email application to compose, reply, and send messages.
